Over all this is a poorly put together product. At the price I didn’t expect a whole lot, but I expected more than I received. The biggest problem was that the stainless steel coating was breached in several areas , especially on the rivits where the handles attach. The pot itself was of very thin metal and looked like it would become damaged very easily. I decided to retun it as soon as I saw it, and spend the extra money on a better made product. This might be OK for some applications, but for a little more money you can get a product that will last much longer and have fewer problems in the long run.

Do not buy if you want a 20 Qt pot, this one is only 16 Qt. I had to return to Amazon twice. It is clear to me that this vendor is selling this pot as 20 Qt when it is not. This pot is first-class: heavy bottom, strong and easy to hold handles, well-fitting lid, nice shape. It is beautiful as well as functional. I have seen similar in stores for almost twice the price. It sits nice and flat on my electric range, heats well and holds the heat for a long time, perfect for long cooking of soups and stews. It cleans up well, with nothing burning or sticking. I don’t think one can do better.

Farberware Classic 16-Quart Stainless-Steel Stockpot with Lid Reviews

Okay, I’ll admit that I’m a bit biased towards Farberware in the first place, but with this pot they’ve done just about everything right. The aluminum slug sealed into the base makes for very even heating, which is important since it’s wider than most burners. And it holds up to high heat well – I’ve been browning meat and making roux in mine for a few years now. The lid is snug enough without being a pain and the loop handles are nice – the smaller Classic series stock pots have the molded plastic ones instead. The only thing I’d change in the design of the pot is to use a brushed finish – I tend to prefer that over chrome because any chrome pot that I use very often ends up with a patina of scratches anyway, and I prefer that they all run in the same direction. But who’s complaining? This pot performs where it counts – it heats quickly and evenly and has taken quite a beating over the years without so much as a ding.

This pot is PERFECT for making homemade pasta for a moderate to large sized crowd.

The heavy base and large capacity means when you plunge in a plate of still-moist homemade spagetti, the water keeps boiling, or returns to a full boil within a minute or so. Ours has stayed beautiful in our active kitchen for over a year despite constant use and frequent washing.

This is my favorite large kettle.

I can think of NOTHING wrong with this pot.

Update: 4/2005 (a year later) – This is STILL the perfect pot for cooking large batches of pasta and two-chicken soups.

Update 5/2008 (4 years later) – Still looks as good as new, and works just as well. We’ve given them as gifts, and they are always appreciated!

These pots are pretty thin and you can expect the base to be of the same thickness as the sides. Still, I thought it was a good deal when I paid a little over ! In a few days the price went down further to about . That would have been a better price to pay!

They stack well and the lid of the smaller one fits into the next size (except for the largest of course). They could dent easily!

They heat up quickly and are great when you need to make cheese or just make stocks and soups for a large gathering!

It’s also great as a double boiler!

The metal on these stock pots is probably the thinnest I’ve seen on any pots or pans. There were some small dents/dings in them when I got it, and I’m not sure if this can be avoided, because of the thickness of the metal.

Nonetheless, for the money ( shipped), it is a pretty good value. I weighed all of the pots+lids together in order to report for this review, and they weigh about 10 pounds total.

If you need large pots but don’t plan on using them often and you’re not putting them out on display and you don’t care whether or not they are high quality, this set is a good bet. Or if you’re dying shirts or doing something else with non-food items and you don’t want to use the same pots you use for eating, you could get these in order to have some pots dedicated to whatever non-food purpose you have.

Don’t get me wrong – it’s not like these pots are thin like an aluminum foil disposable roaster pan – they are thicker than that and I have no doubt that when they will do a solid job if you fill them with water or something else like that. They should be able to do anything you’d normally use a pot for.

I’m giving this 2 stars for quality and because some of it had small dents, but it’s probably close to 4 or or maybe 5 for value, I guess.

This is not a poduct for the professional cook or even for a homeowner who will use it regularly and expects it to retain it’s brand new look. The material is relatively thin and won’t stand up to bumps and bruises without showing dents and scratches. But, if you use it as a large container and handle it with care, it should last a long time. I bought mine to hold a 20# turkey for brining. It worked fine and seems to be a good value for the $$$ I paid.

I had a terrible time trying to find true stainless steel pots locally. Most claimed they were, but were obviously aluminum. I might have given in and purchased them if they had not been so flimsy and poorly made.

I was a little reluctant to try online, but I usually have good luck on Amazon, and these three pots were a steal at . I got them quickly – and was incredibly pleased. They are sturdy, definitely stainless steel and worked beautifully for canning this year. The sizes are perfect – one big one for large canning projects or dishes, a medium for oddball projects and a small that is perfect for a single person who needs something bigger than a sauce pan to make spaghetti or chili. I definitely recommend these pots, as well as the seller.

This is a great stockpot. I had “borrowed” my mother-in-law’s 6qt Wolfgang Puck Tri-Ply for several years and finally decided to return it. After using her tri-ply for so long, I knew I didn’t want to go back to any other material. I was nervous about not finding one in my price range (AllClad for example is way too much for my modest income). When I saw this on Amazon for such a great price, I was concerened that the 8qt would be too big for my little kitchen. Since I couldn’t find anything comparable, I went ahead and ordered it. When it arrived I was pleasantly surprised that it isn’t much bigger than the 6qt Wolfgang.

The glass lid is fun because I can watch my stuff cook without lifting the lid. The handles stick out enough so that I don’t burn my knuckels. They are also strategically placed to balance the weight, empty or full. I didn’t notice that on the Wolfgang model.

In anycase, I have fried bits of meat on the bottom and then added liquid for soups and sauces. I have added cold stuff to hot and not had a problem with loosing heat.

This is a sturdy pot. The stainless steel is thick and it easy is to clean. It heats quickly when your hungry and can simmer sauce for hours without complaining.

If you are looking for a stockpot (especially for spaghetti sauce), go with the Calphalon – you can saute tomatoes on the bottom without any concerns.

The first thing you notice about this pan is the weight. This is due to the thick bottom and solid sides. This construction allows for very even heat distribution and excellent results in cooking. With no “hot spots”, there were no burns and clean up was easy. This is not the cheapest 8 qt. stock pot sold by Amazon, but it is one of the better ones and is a very good value. For boiling water, the cheap pots are fine, but for soups and sauces, invest in a good pot like this one.
