We have a 5L Zoji hot water pot and recently, used 1 packet (per directions) of this stuff to clean it. It worked great! We did do the cleaning cycle twice, just to be sure we got all the lime scale out. We have hard water, use the pot daily and after several months, it was EXTREMELY scaled up inside. For those who were wondering… This product is just 100% pure granular citric acid. Nothing else. Citric acid is also called SOUR SALT. The same stuff you would use for canning, cooking Jewish foods, etc. Each packet contains 30 grams or 2 tablespoons. There are 4 packets per box, 120 grams total or 4.23 ounces. Citric acid is available in powdered and various granular forms (for VARIOUS prices). This granular product had about the texture of regular table salt. Any form would work just fine. First, you need to dissolve this product in 1 cup or 240 ml warm water. Next, fill pot with plain water to just below max fill line and pour citric acid mixture into inner container. Then, turn on unit and warm for 1-3 hours. Dump water, then refill with fresh water, bring to a boil, dispense a cup (240ml) or so, to flush dispenser tube and pump, then dump remaining water. KEEP WIRE FILTER PLUG IN PLACE DURING ENTIRE PROCESS, IF YOUR UNIT IS SO EQUIPPED. Zojirushi says to use the programed cleaning cycle and follow the directions in your owner’s manual, if your unit has this feature. Also, to adjust the amount of citric acid and the length of warming time, depending on the amount of scale in your pot. Zoji says this product may be used for all brands of water pots, probably because they are all made the same in one or two factories. Clean as a whistle, when done! Looks and works like new! Easy, too! Hope this is helpful! PS: It clearly states in the owners manual NOT to use vinegar (instead of citric acid) to clean your pot, as it will permanently damage your pots inner coating.

Works well but this a very expensive way to go. All you need to dissolve the scale is a mild acid.

We use Vinegar, which works well but smells like vinegar. Add a glass jar to the inside and you use a lot less (Think of how you displace water when you get in the tub) You can also save the vinegar to use again later, though white vinegar in bulk is quite inexpensive.

This product is 100% Citric acid which doesn’t smell, however for the same price here on Amazon you can buy almost 10 times as much if you buy food grade (Citric acid is used for lots of things including cooking.)

Two tablespoons are about the right amount for each cleaning cycle

I recently purchased a package of Pot Risers to try out, and will be ordering more now that I’ve tried them. This spring I invested a lot of $$$ in my home by having a large trex deck installed. My old cedar deck always looked awful underneath pots that stayed in one spot too long, which they invariably did as rearranging pots every few days isn’t something I’ve proven even remotely reliable about doing. Some of my pots are also just plain too heavy to be easily moved. While wood rotting under pots isn’t an issue with the new deck, staining and mold/mildew do still pose significant appearance problems. I don’t care for the look of most traditional ceramic pot feet, so love that these are invisible, and additionally these are more economical. Another big plus is the air circulation and drainage under the pots ensures that my plant’s roots don’t sit in water as some plants won’t tolerate that.

With the large amount of money I’ve put into my “dream deck”, the Pot Risers are a tiny investment towards keeping it looking good.

This fall I started an outdoor urban container garden with 28 (and growing) potted plants.

Pots need to be raised off the concrete so (1) the concrete doesn’t get stained; (2) plants don’t sit in water when it rains, causing root rot; and (3) when you want to do a deep watering, you know you have watered enough when the water starts to run out the bottom of the pot (which won’t happen unless the pot is raised). Saucers solve the first problem, but not the other two and, in any case, saucers weren’t the look I was going for in my sleek modern garden and few of the pots I bought had matching saucers.

So, the urban gardener needs something to lift the pots off the ground. Since I am using sleek modern pots, not terra cotta, terra cotta pot feet (which I think are ugly anyway) wouldn’t do. I was buying pieces of flat glazed ceramic at my local nursery to slip under the pots so they would float above the ground. That worked nicely until my nursery ran out. It was also an expensive solution, since the ceramic pieces were .99 each and each pot needed three or four.

Enter Pot Risers from thrive/urban gardeners. They are considerably cheaper than the ceramic pieces I was buying at my local nursery and work just as well. I just ordered 100 more to accommodate my growing garden. That way when I buy a new pot, I will know I have Pot Risers ready for it (plus, I’ll have some to give out to friends and family).
