The only reason I didn’t give these nice, hefty bowls five stars is that you don’t know until you get them that THEY ARE NOT DISHWASHER SAFE.

I’d put everything in the dishwasher if I could –just hate handwashing anything.

I put these on the top rack and it doesn’t seem to hurt them. Usually when a ceramic is not dishwasher approved, it means it can’t take the heat stress from the drying heat element. So, I don’t dare put them in the microwave, either. Rats!It was my choice to risk crazing and cracking by using the top rack, and they’re just fine after five washings.

The large bowl holds dough for four loaves of bread to rise, the middle one holds two, and the small one is great for serving things.

I would not buy Sango products from Amazon if I were you. Their supplier is terrible. There is nothing wrong with Sango products, it is just that Amazon and the supplier do not care about product quality or customer happiness.

The first set that I received had bubbles in the glaze and it was easy to send it back. However, the second set I received came broken. Things like this do happen in the mail, but what upset me was the fact that there were wrapped up pieces and notes from a previous customer. What this told me was that the supplier was sending out already returned broken items and trying to pass them off as new. I brought this to Amazon’s attention twice and all I received was a generic response. I recommend you buy your Sango products elsewhere.

I love the SANGO NOVA BROWN dishware and rate it 5 stars. This boxed set of bowls is just not padded enough for the weight. The slightest rough handling by a shipper is going to result in damage as can be seen in the prior reviewer’s comments. Mine too arrived broken. Sure seems like Sango would put a bit more padding between those bowls in the box. Amazon could also do a better job of protecting this item when they pack it for shipping. I sure hope Amazon gets credit from Sango for all these broken pieces. Combined score +2.

Whenever purchasing kitchenware, I do my utmost to stay away from plastic, heavy metals or anything else linked to health problems. I do this because my oldest child is on the autism spectrum and many researcher speculate that BPA, Teflon, mercury, lead etc. are linked to the resent explosion of autism spectrum disorders. Reading in the description that these are free of lead and cadmium made me decide on this particular set. I also hoped, given that description, that the bowls would have be manufactured in the US (I really wish Amazon would include the location of manufacture in the item description information). Alas, when I received the bowls they are clearly marked “Made in China.” I like the claim that these bowls are free of lead and cadmium but I cannot entirely trust that claim given all the problems with lead in children’s toys coming out of China, toys that were supposedly lead free. However, they are attractive bowls, the largest is what I would consider to be about the size of a medium sized mixing bowl.
