It’s a measuring cup, does it job good. The reason for the review is comparing with the plastic ones, glass ones are far better.

#1 – It’s easy to clean. Even if you use it to measure oil, glass cleans a lot better afterwards.

#2 – The glass is very thick, you can call it heavy duty. Bumping it on the counter or against pans, it won’t just break.

#3 – The handle holds comfortablly & the cup has a pouring mouth.

A real simple item, but this one gets everything right at the reasonable price. Good buy.

Have you ever tried to measure a cup of oil in a plastic measuring cup? Sure, it works, but I hope you have half an hour or so to get the oil off the plastic. It’s an annoying waste of time and gallons of running water.

The Pyrex Prepware 2-Cup Measuring Cup, Clear with Red Measurements is the gold standard of measuring cups. All that other plastic stuff in my kitchen is junk compared to it.

If you need a measuring cup, definitely buy this one.

I must be getting old, as today I dropped my Pyrex 1 Quart Measuring Cup from a cupboard about 10 feet up and guess what, it didn’t break, and I was very excited! I’ve bought dozens of measuring cups over the years and have managed to melt, break, tarnish and mutilate each and every one of them. This one seems to be up to the challenge. I’ve used it to melt butter and left it in the microwave too long, washed it a dozen times in the dishwasher, used a whisk in it (I love the sheer size of this thing!). Not a scratch on it! I know, I know, it’s just a measuring cup. But quality does matter, and this one is top notch!

Pyrex measuring cups are among the essentials for any kitchen. This size holds one quart but also is useful for mixing smaller amounts such as pancake or waffle batter and muffins, heating soup or chili in the microwave, making Jell-o for the kids, small salads, and much more. I really wouldn’t be without this size. You shouldn’t be either.

Pyrex is only a trade name ONLY now, licensed out to World Kitchen. It is NOT the original invention from 1915 that we all remember. It is NOT Pyrex BOROSILICATE glass anymore (after 1998). It is NOT safe to plunge into ice cold water from boiling oven anymore. It’s also heavier because it’s NOT PYREX anymore! After 1998, when Corning Glass stopped making Pyrex. (Think fiberoptics and bankruptcy, etc.) They sold off their ‘household’ glassmaking and it reformed as World Kitchen. PYREX is borosilicate glass and very resistant to wear and chip and cracking due to exposure to heat or quick changes in temperature. This is why Pyrex and Kimax and other borosilicate glasses are used for chemistry glassware. (Timex was to watches as these were to chemlabware! Takes a lickin’ and keeps on tickin’!) Corning has licensed the name of ‘Pyrex’ to World Kitchen, but nothing else about it is ‘corning glass’. (As an aside – Corning made/makes great glass – of all kinds. A world-beater in their day. Management screwed them over going down the wrong economic road. Do check out their lovely glass museum in Corning, NY!) NOW, World Kitchen makes their ‘pyrex’ measuring cups out of ordinary soda-lime glass (kitchen drinking glass type). This is NOT safe to expose to heat changes!!!! (Think wear safety goggles – like you WERE working in a CHEM LAB!) I suspect that soda-lime glass is denser than borosilicate, but the actual measure wall thickness may be different now than before, and, thus, this accounts for some of the weight difference. If you want my opinion – find ‘vintage’ Pyrex Measuring Cups somehow and they will last multiple lifetimes. I have one of my mom’s and she has two of her mom’s measures. My new ones cannot hold a candle to the old ones (30 to 60 years old) and aren’t worth a tinker’s damn. Happy times in the kitchen!

I have always used pyrex glass measuring cups, so when my old one-cup cup broke I wanted to replace it. I’m very disappointed with the design of the new cup. The cup itself will probably hold two cups of liquid. It only has markings for up to one cup. The cup is very short and wide. This makes the markings so close together they are hard to read and hard to pour the precise of liquid I need. I bought another one that I like. I can’t imagine why Pyrex made this cup like this. I would have never believed I would review a measuring cup, but this one was so bad I decided to.

Last night I measured 4 cups of boiling water into this pyrex dish to pour into a recipe, poured the water and set it down on the counter. As I started to walk away it sounded like a gunshot. The glass was all over in a 5 foot radius. I just got this measuring cup for x-mas, it is new. Just do a search for exploding pyrex and you will see that I am not the only one this has happened to with newer pyrex. I am just glad it didn’t explode with the boiling water in it, and burn my feet or my dogs. Buyers Beware!!!!

I checked the calibration against a scientific beaker and the Pyrex is almost 2 ounces short for 4 cups; none of the marks were accurate.

It’s great for mixing batter (heavy enough to stay put on the counter) and the pour spout & lid are very useful.

Of course, there’s sentiment: my mother used Pyrex exclusively. (The bowls were avocado! & the casseroles a gold floral pattern.)

However, if you need accurate measures, try oxo or another brand.

I bought one of these simply because I had to have every piece of kitchen ware I laid my eyes on (at one point) and, while most of my gadgets gathered dust, this little (actually not so little, and that is the point) beauty got used over and over again.

There may not be many times when you need to measure a full two quarts, but when you are measuring 2 cups or 4 cups, then mixing this with some other ingredient(s), the ability to measure and mix in the same container is a great time and dishware saver.

I learned the value of this measuring cup when mine broke and I found myself without one through the height of my baking season.

This is a bit heavier than a corresponding cup in plastic, but you simply cannot clean plastic to the same level of sanitary confidence as you can glass. Therefore, I ordered two to replace my lost heirloom. They are cheap!

Pyrex is always the best! This enormous measuring cup is great for melting in the microwave and for a homemade double boiler in any pot. The lid is a hard plastic top with flexible sides that seal up tight so you can use it to store things in the fridge and to carry things places. Also the cover is safe for both freezer and microwave use (but not the oven) and is dishwasher safe in the top rack. The cover has three pouring choices, a regular pour spout, a slotted spout, and a spout with seven little holes. An extremely useful item to have in the kitchen!

It turns out that this mixing bowl is not made by corel, and is not the high quality high temperature glass originally used. Corel sold of it’s Pyrex brand to another company called World Kitchen. WK uses common bottle glass for all it’s Pyrex line, rather than the ‘lab glass’ that made pyrex worth buying.

I was forced to purchase a replacement for the 16 year loyal pyrex measuring that finaly broke. It arrived today, complete with defective bubbles and cracks through both the handle and bowl. Return shipping will cost more than the item did to purchase, so I am out of luck.

If you are looking for the quality pyrex that has been used for generations, you are out of luck. It has not been made for a while now.

I absolutely love it. I have the 4 cup one also. They are easy to read, and the best part is the lid. Great for melting butter in the microwave and not have to worry about splatters. The lid also strains as well as pours, so there is less mess. I’m so glad I bought it.

I use this cup for making salad dressing. I make enough for a couple of nights and like to put the rest in the refrig. I had been covering my cup with saran, so I jumped at this cup with lid. Problem is, it does not seal. There is a big gap between the spout and the lid. So, the dressing dries out or the dressing (if garlic/onion/shallot) smell permeates through the refrig. It does not seal so liquids will leak out of the spout. It would be good for pouring off liquids from, say, micro’d veggies.

The other irritating thing is, I have 2 other PYREX 2-cup measuring cups (I bought this 3rd cup bec of the lid), and the lid doesn’t fit them.

…but I don’t. I mostly just use it to hold vegetables, etc, after I’ve cut them up – it’s pretty much worthless as an actual measuring cup for liquid ingredients, because it doesn’t pour very well at all. You end up with a large portion of whatever you were trying to measure spilling all over the counter. I thought that maybe the one I got was defective, but then I saw the same thing happen several times on Iron Chef, so I know it’s not just me.

Incidentally, I also have the 2-quart measuring cup and it pours perfectly.

I really do like this measuring cup. It is easy to read the markings for measuring. And pouring is very easy.

I bought this partially because I like to make Alton Brown’s recipe for homemade pancakes. Well, you have to measure 2 cups of a liquid and then add more stuff. I wanted to make it very easy to add and to mix it up. This works perfectly. It’s easy to get a hand mixer in this measuring cup and mix away… at least on low to medium. I’m not sure I’d want to try it on high. It is a small vessel after all.

This cup is quite sturdy and easy to read. I’m very pleased with this item just as I expected to be.

The Pyrex four cup measuring cup is not an essential kitchen item like the Pyrex Prepware 2-Cup Measuring Cup, Clear with Red Measurements, but certainly has a role for some people.

Pyrex makes first rate kitchen glassware. It can handle heat or cold safely, and stands up to normal uses for decades.

The two main uses for the four cup measuring ‘cup’: for cooking for larger groups, and microwaving larger amounts of liquid stuff. When cooking for more than four or so, it is convenient to measure larger quantities at a time. You’re doubling a recipe that calls for one and a half cups of something? No worries, pour once and on to the next thing. For microwaving, Pyrex works like a champ. The four cup size makes a large batch of hot liquid easy with the microwave, and you can watch the progress (if needed) through the sides.

I don’t use it daily, but I’m sure many people do.
