I was in need of some new silverware. Little by little my set dwindled, perhaps they are hanging out with the mate to all my socks that seem to vanish in the dryer;)

I priced flatware at several places, and these are the best deal anywhere. You get twice as much, plus the additional serving fork, spoon, slotted spoon, butter knife, and the 8 steak knives!

They didnt feel cheap, have some weight to them, and I like the cleaner lines compared to my old set. Recomend:)

Since I’m benefitting from the reviews of others, I might as well give one myself. So here’s my take on this product:

I sure can recommend this Oneida silverware set. It’s probably not the highest quality (18/10 steel, other Oneida sets would have some higher value I think), which is adequately reflected in the price. My set does show some “darkening” streaks… maybe I should better say that it just doesn’t shine as much anymore as when it was new (having it for 1.5 years now, no dishwasher though). My personal take is that this “darkening” (on single pieces only, I should add) is due to what I perceive as the lower quality of the steel — which may or may not be true, I’m speaking as a lay person obviously. Having said all this: this is a very appealing design, doesn’t look neither too casual nor too chic, it weighs very well in one’s hand and is balanced well, and the knives cut well. Overall I think this is a very good value for the price. After having debated whether I should buy a higher quality steel for a second set, I decided to buy another set of the Moonchrest, because it simply looks very good (received even compliments on it), and is functional enough for daily use and classy enough to serve guests with. You can tell, I’m happy with my choice. If I had a wish, though, I would have liked the Moonchrest design in that higher value steel that most Oneida silverware products are made of (that’s why I gave four instead of five stars, because to me it’s not the “perfect” product).

I bought this set based on the glaring reviews in here. As soon as I received I put them in the dishwasher. I guess that’s all it took, but a few pieces were RUSTED when I was going to transfer them from the dishwasher to the silverware drawer. Obviously this might be a one-off production glitch; however, I’m simply amazed at the vast number of 5 star reviews. Of the pieces that didn’t rust, about half lost their luster and polishing — again after ONE wash. Five stars? Really? After all it clearly advertises it is DISHWASHER SAFE and STAINLESS STEEL, in my case I got none. Absolutely unacceptable.

I got this set for my mother who was extremely happy with the stylish look, quality, weight per piece, sturdiness, and value (I was the one happy with the value). This is a very handsome flatware set that can be used on a daily basis or for special occasions. It is well worth the value and after seeing and using these I will be buying a set for my sister for Christmas. You won’t be disappointed with the price, value, look, or feel. This is an excellent set and I’m glad I chose this particular service. I have no regrets in purchasing this set.

Please be aware that although J A Henckels is a quality German company this set of flatware is manufactured in another country. Even so, the quality is NOT compromised and meets or exceeds Henckels standard of quality.

I recently purchased the Gourmet Settings Silver Tear 20-Piece Flatware Set and was in need of a tray that would fit my small, odd sized drawer. It also had to be sturdy and look nice enough to show off my new set. This J.A. Henckels International Flatware Tray was the perfect solution. It’s very well made and has a beautiful finish to it. If you’re anything like me, measurements really help so here are the (rough) inside measurements of the compartments: 9″ long by 2.25″ wide for the center four slots, and 9 3/4″ long by 2″ wide for the long ends. The inside height on all compartments is 2 inches.

It would easily fit a service for 12 in my heavy flatware pattern (see my uploaded picture above). With a lighter (flatter) set you could fit even more.

If this size tray works for your flatware then I highly recommend this item.

I’ve been using this Oneida Chandler flatware set for 12 for a couple of months, and I would like to share my opinion on it. Despite perfect reviews by other users, I have mixed feelings (some good and bad) about this silverware set.

First, it is sturdy and well-balanced in weight. If you dislike light silverware, you will like the weight and thickness of this flatware. When it comes to the style, it is simple and rather plain… Generally, I think this flatware is very practical and well-constructed.

Second, it should be cleared that this flatware is NOT 18/10 stainless steel but 18/0. The nickel content in this silverware is 0, which is less valued than 18/10 (10 percent of nickel) in general. So if you want to have a flatware set with a better quality in terms of material, this flatware might not be the one that you want.

Third, I found scratches are formed in the end part of the fork handle more and more by time (it is not too bad probably for most of people but I found it disappointing). I think the reason is because the main fork of this flatware has a unique curve in the handle so that they are kind of rubbed easily each other in the caddy or in the dishwasher/dry rack. This is a problem only with forks not with others, so I blame it on the shape of forks. After using them for a couple of months, the scratches are visible and contrasted well with the shiny other part. To be honest, I became hesitant with this flatware for this third reason while I was pretty happy before.

I decide to write a review for the first time in Amazon because I thought it would be helpful for people who consider to buy this item while everybody gave a perfect score. Good luck.

We’ve been looking to replace our stainless for a few years now, patiently waiting for the right set that balanced style, features, durability and value. It was tough as most of the sets we liked were very expensive – + per place setting. We thought about a Mikasa set that is made in Korea, but we were not sold on the style and they were made of 18/8 steel; a lesser grade of stainless.We came across this set of Oneida at a local department store for 0 for the 12 piece setting. We agreed that it was the set we were looking for but we came home to see if it was available at amazon.com.We were delighted to find it at 1/3 lower cost – what a great buy! They arrived today and we could not be happier. 18/10 (same as the + sets) and the same weight as well.GREAT FIND – you’ll love them.

My husband and I just got married and we were looking for a nice, hefty 18/10 flatware set that would be suitable for both everyday use as well as when we would be entertaining. Upon doing an extensive search on the internet, I came upon Oneida’s Satin Garnet collection. After reading all the product description and reviews, I was convinced we had found what we were looking for. So I placed the order in December 2004. They arrived about a week later and sure enough, we were absolutely delighted with our purchase. The pieces look wonderful and feel great in the hand…each feels very solid, quite substantial. After almost 3 months of usage, I still find myself admiring them! They do well in the dishwasher too, always coming out with a nice mirror shine. And the price here at Amazon.com can’t be beat. I saw this same collection last weekend on sale at a department store for 0! All I can say is thanks Amazon for carrying such a great product at a terrific bargain!

I purchased two 45 piece sets of this flatware and am so pleased with it.

I love the design of the handles. They feel great in the hand and fit together well in the drawer. Storing service for 16 in my standard-sized silverware drawer is no problem because the pieces “spoon” so well together.

There are no sharp edges on the handles, despite their square-cornered appearance. I am perfectly comfortable having my kids use the flatware.

The knives feel heavy for their size, which I like, and they cut through meat much better than standard place setting knives. I don’t anticipate having to use our steak knives for anything. I was pleasantly surprised by this, but I guess I shouldn’t have been since the flatware was manufactured by a knife company. The knives sit on their edge, which takes some getting used to, but makes a really unusual and interesting place setting.

I have run the flatware through both handwashing and the dishwasher several times now and see no evidence of rusting or spotting. I specifically wanted 18/10 stainless for this reason. Both my handwashing and automatic diswashing detergents are lemon scented, but there have been no problems. The directions that come with the flatware contain really helpful suggestions – items you don’t want to soak your flatware with, etc.

The five serving pieces that come with the set are: Cold meat fork, serving spoon, slotted serving spoon, butter knife and sugar shell. The first three are of a good size that we’ll use every day. The cold meat fork’s tines flare out slightly, which is very attractive.

I received the set in April and so far so good. I was a bit hesitant about ordering it because my friend has an Oneida set that rusted after a few cycles in the dishwasher. I hardly use my dishwasher because there aren’t many people to justify running a full load when I can just wash after every meal–so I cannot rate how this set stands against multiple dishwashing loads; I would imagine it doesn’t rust either way. I was looking for something contemporary and liked the design on this to match the square Corelle dishes I ordered. The set is different in that its butter knives are different from other sets because they stand on their own. If you want something simple and modern, this is a good quality set.

The Sand Dune series is one of the most elegant flatware services available. Easily found in many retail stores, its success is perhaps due to the sweeping line inside the form of the handles that makes gripping easy and graceful, and the heft that’s actually provided. The weight provides a good lever for cutting (for the knives) and stabbing with the fork. This is not a series so light and hollow that the utensils will fly from a hand, or cause you to press with wrist and hand so hard as to cause ache. The utensils seem to help you move through a meal.They are lovely at an elegant table, but also at home with your everyday dinners. I’ve purchased two 8-place settings for myself, plus found the serving utenils at a local outlet mall. The large serving spoons and serving forks (great with carving) are very hard to find and many places will not have them in any open stock. If you ever see the serving utensils, grab them.My mother-in-law from Australia liked Sand Dune so much when she visited, she asked me to take her to purchase her own sets. She bought enough for 8 places and took them back to Australia.Sand Dune has been one of my best table purchases.

I recently purchased a service for 8 from Amazon.com for a very reasonable price, only to find out that it was, in fact, 18/0 stainless steel prone to rusting and not the 18/8 rust-resistant stainless advertised! I then went to Bed Bath and Beyond and found their items were similarly mismarked! Furthermore, I checked with several Ebay vendors and they all stated that their postings were also accidentally misleading in labeling 18/0 sets as 18/8.

I did research as to the cause of the mixup and found out the following: Two-or-so years ago, Oneida reacted to the rising cost of nickel by making its lower-end lines (among them American Harmony, Sand Dune, and Satin Sand Dune) with no nickel (signified by the /0). Nickel adds rust resistance and luster to stainless steel, and I have read reviews that state that the new stuff is prone-to-rust.

Be careful when reading reviews from owners that were either posted more than two years ago or from owners who state they have had their set for more than two years, because the set they are describing is of much higher quality than that which they are currently selling under the same name! Shame on Oneida, and watch out when purchasing sets marked at 18/8!

This set looks and feels simple, casual, sturdy and classic. The forks and spoons (especially the spoons) are weighty in the hand. They feel like hotel or cruise line flatware, heavy and solid.

The knife is the odd one out, a bit. It feels hollow in the handle. They could have left a little bit more metal inside for weight. However, the shape is so good in the hand, the unexpectedly light weight is soon forgotten. Don’t be afraid of the short blade, it puts as much “knife” into the food as you’d use anyway. It cuts nicely and is balanced well enough.

The spoons are notable. They are smooth on the edges and extremely firm, you never have to worry about spooning out ice cream, these handles won’t bend.

Another notable: the shine. Most people exaggerate when they say something is polished like a mirror. In this case, it’s true. I bought this set for use at beaches and parks but I now use them daily.

The design and heft are worth the money.

I purchased this set of flatware for my sister’s family after some research on the premium utensil company of Zwilling JA Henckel. Surprisingly, this company has decided to dilute its image by selling a secondary quality line under the “JA Henckel International” label which is made in China using inferior materials. I had a choice between this (already discounted) set for another set of the “International” brand which held nearly twice as many utensils for a cheaper price, but the numerous negative reviews of the “international” version set me straight – usually complaining of he inability to wash it in the dishwasher without heavy scratching due to the inferior butter-soft quality of the secondary label’s stainless steel. So overall, I recommend this product especially over its inferior brethren.
